Choosing A CAM Program



There are actually multiple CAM programs available for generating resource machining and trails operations. Generally, men and women become familiar with one and stick with that. My advice is this, as far as selecting the right one for you. Most software firms have free trials. 30-day trials are common. Take advantage of these trial tests and periods the software out. If you want to attempt another or stay with your best one, then at the end, decide. I would personally advise you try out no less than three different deals.

The one you select probably will have to do with your choice the interface or finding it intuitive. Keep in mind it may work for you now. A simple to use and understand interface most likely has some limits for your designs. The most beneficial programs are complicated with many tools that give you the most handle. I have found that I start with a simple program and outgrow it. At some point, I progress up to the next level of computer software. This usually implies a higher price too.

The difference in CAM Software levels is the number of Axis the program allows for. You will see the regular types below. Think of it like this, as you increase Axis', the more sophisticated the software must get and the more it would cost. It will also present you with more flexibility although. That is the trade off, dollars for flexibility.

The different types of CAM Application

There are many different types of CAM Software. You will need to get the type that fits your machine. For example, when you have a CNC Plasma Cutter, you probably only need a 2D CAM Software version. The torch will undoubtedly move in the Y and X aircraft. That is if you have a torch height control.

What if you have a CNC Milling Device with Y and X axes which are powered by stepper motors? You will probably only need 2.5D CAM Software. That is because your parts could have depth.

What when you have a CNC Wood Router and it carves out 3D shapes out of wood? It has a few servo motors to manage on the Y, Z and X-axis. Yep, you need 3D CAM Software.

What if you want to mill or carve something in a cylinder of stock material? You will need a fourth Axis CAM Software program so the machine can rotate the tube while all the other a few Axis' are transferring.
